Dive Site Cannibal Rock

Dive site Cannibal Rock is not good for novices. Although the marine life is very rich here, this submerged pinnacle is too exposed to the current. You will have to do extra struggle too as the surface can be too choppy. Cannibal Rock lies east of Komodo Island, south to Rinca Island, approximately 1km from the northern coast of Nusa Kode dive site. The depth here is between 5 and 35m with visibility around 5 to 20m. This Komodo diving site can be too cold at 20 degrees but when everything is normal it is warm enough at 25 degrees.

Dive Site Suggestion

Best time to start your diving here is between September and June. If you are travelling with a liveaboard departing from one of Bali’s harbors, you will reach this diving site after 26 hours. The normal diving direction is to swim descending to the south until you find the deepest section. But you can try swim directly to the north and east. Wherever you go, though, you will find amazing underwater life.

To the south of this Komodo diving site, at the deepest section, you see abundant blue and green anemones, nudibranch and sea apples (Pseudocolchirus Violaceus). When you come out of the depth, sometimes you can find yourself stared at by black-blotched stingrays that are hunting in the area. Or you may be surprised by the flashy movement of black snappers. At the east and the north of this dive site, we see gorgonian fans that can reach up to 2m tall. Seahorses are the residents of these fans. The corals are like underwater colors show-off, with turtle sometimes visible around the colorful corals.

While swimming over the corals, be attentive enough to catch a glimpse of the Komodo Island endemic – yellow-ribbon sweetlips as well as gold-stripped fusiliers. Shallower sections are wrapped in feather star with any color that you can imagine.
